New software release: HTAccessV5 | Formacs series TOC/TN analyzers
The new HTAccessV5 software for the FormacsHT and FormacsHT-I has been extended with a suite of Smart functionalities to allow the correct measurement of TOC. These new functionalities include Smart NPOC, Smart sparging and Smart dilution.
A characteristic of environmental analysis is the diverse range of sample types encountered by laboratories. Therefore, the ability to accept and analyze them with technical and analytical confidence is of great importance. This usually requires a certain level of know-how and sample knowledge from the laboratory operators, but labs must be able to proceed correctly and accurately even when such knowledge of the samples is absent or unavailable.
Therefore, Skalar has extended its HTAccess software package with some new Smart automation features to support laboratories. These intelligent features offer an efficient way of analyzing as well as precision and accuracy of results.
TOC is generally measured in two ways, depending on the sample matrix composition: the difference/calculation method, where TOC = TC - IC and the NPOC method, where IC is removed by acidification and sparging. For most environmental samples, the concentration of purgeable/volatile compounds is negligible and can be disregarded from the TOC value of the sample. The new Smart NPOC feature now allows the software to take this analytical decision and automatically selects the correct method for unknown samples. Firstly, a smart scan of the sample is made. The results of the scan will determine what will be the most optimal analysis method for that particular sample, the difference/calculation method or the NPOC method.
Based on detection of residual IC, samples will be automatically re-sparged. Batch times are shortened as unnecessarily long sparging times are avoided for samples requiring only short periods of sparging to remove all IC.
The appropriate dilution factor is determined based on the peak area of the over-range sample, thus avoiding serial/cascade dilutions associated with fixed dilution factors, resulting in shorter run times and fewer errors
